Former Fat Girl Nichole Ransom
Age: 30
Lives: Hermosa Beach, CA
Weight before: 231.6
Weight after: 130

Her history:
Food was a constant focus when she was growing up, Nichole says. “When we would go out to eat, I couldn’t pay attention to the conversation until I ordered and my meal came—that’s how focused I was on food,” she says.
Her outgoing personality won her tons of friends—but few dates. “I was the guys’ girl,” she says. “There were guys who liked me for my personality, but then they would want to keep our relationship a secret. That’s what really hurt.”

Her turning point:
Over the years, she tried just about everything to lose weight, but nothing stuck. “It was always a short-term goal: to fit into a prom dress, get a guy …”
Everything changed when she refocused her goals. “I decided to do it for me—that this time, it was all about me.”

Her Former Fat Girl journey:
Nichole started Weight Watchers and lost 50 pounds in the first six months. Then, she dropped another 20 when she started running. (“I was so jazzed that I could actually do it!” she says.) She lost the last 30 pounds by focusing on eating fewer packaged foods and more “real” foods (i.e., salads instead of snack bars).

The “after” life:
Nichole hopes her story will inspire other women to start their own weight-loss journeys. “It’s still a struggle, every day,” she says, particularly because her job involves a great deal of entertaining. “I have to deal with people urging me—just one bite, just one bite.” But when she does indulge, it’s not because someone else wants her to. “Now, I decide when I cave.”
